Summer here peaks in May at about 32°C. That is manageable for a Saint Bernard, but watch it closely because its double coat holds heat close to the body and a giant body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 9°C.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Saint Bernard puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
