The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Khongsa

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, a Toy Poodle Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the extended rainy season. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 24°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Toy Poodle that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 2°C in January. A Toy Poodle feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Toy Poodle puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
