Grooming and coat care in Lotsu

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

Is the Chow Chow Puppy right for Lotsu?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, and a medium-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Chow Chow Puppy adapts well to Lotsu on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Lotsu

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Lotsu, the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Feeding a medium dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a medium frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the green, rainy climate is mild but demands dry shelter and grooming discipline, keep water available and watch intake through the extended rainy season.

Summer here peaks in June at about 32°C. That is manageable for a Chow Chow, but watch it closely because its double coat holds heat close to the body: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 9°C.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Chow Chow puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
