Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Pfutsero

Consistency does more for a Pug Puppy than intensity ever will. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Feeding a small dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In monsoon-heavy conditions water matters as much as food — rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

The city sits at about 2,023 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 23°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Pug that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 1°C in January. A Pug feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

No month here is easy on every count for a Pug, so plan the first two weeks around a cool, dry room rather than the calendar.
