Is the Shih Tzu right for Pfutsero?

Pfutsero is lush, wet tropical — rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential — and the Shih Tzu is a small-sized, playful, loyal, affectionate breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Living with a Shih Tzu in Pfutsero

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Shih Tzu room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners in the North-East tend to find this dog a playful, loyal, affectionate companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Space and the outdoors with a Shih Tzu

Homes around Pfutsero usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A small-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

Health and vet care in Pfutsero

Preventive care in Pfutsero is largely a matter of anticipating the extended rainy season. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

The city sits at about 2,023 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 23°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Shih Tzu that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 1°C in January. A Shih Tzu feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

No month here is easy on every count for a Shih Tzu, so plan the first two weeks around a cool, dry room rather than the calendar.
