The city sits at about 1,857 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 24°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Afghan Hound that it is on the plains.

Winter nights drop to about 1°C in January. A Afghan Hound copes well with cold, but a puppy still needs a warm, draught-free bed for its first winter.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
