Feeding a small dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In humid coastal conditions water matters as much as food — moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Is the Pug Puppy right for Balianta?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, and a small-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Pug Puppy adapts well to Balianta on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Health and vet care in Balianta

Preventive care in Balianta is largely a matter of anticipating the long monsoon. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Grooming and coat care in Balianta

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Balianta being humid coastal, moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Balianta is hottest in April, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Pug needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 13°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Pug puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
