Health and vet care in Dasamantapur

Preventive care in Dasamantapur is largely a matter of anticipating the long monsoon. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a small dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Summer in Dasamantapur peaks in April at about 37°C. That is manageable for a Pug, but watch it closely because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C. A Pug has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to October, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Pug puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Dasamantapur are February and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
