The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Grooming and coat care in G.Udayagiri

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. G.Udayagiri being coastal tropical, the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In coastal tropical conditions water matters as much as food — the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Living with a Golden Retriever in G.Udayagiri

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Golden Retriever room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners in the east tend to find this dog a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Is the Golden Retriever right for G.Udayagiri?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Golden Retriever adapts well to G.Udayagiri on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. G.Udayagiri is hottest in April, averaging 39°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Golden Retriever needs real protection from that because its double coat holds heat close to the body and a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 12°C.

The rainy season runs from June to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Golden Retriever puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
