The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Is the Chihuahua Puppy right for Gurundia?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and a tiny-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Chihuahua Puppy adapts well to Gurundia on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Feeding a tiny dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a tiny build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In coastal tropical conditions water matters as much as food — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Grooming and coat care in Gurundia

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Gurundia being coastal tropical, the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Health and vet care in Gurundia

Preventive care in Gurundia is largely a matter of anticipating the long monsoon. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Gurundia is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Chihuahua needs real protection from that: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C. A Chihuahua has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Chihuahua puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Gurundia are February, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
