The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Is the Afghan Hound Puppy right for Kanpur?

Kanpur is humid coastal — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important — and the Afghan Hound Puppy is a large-sized, aloof, dignified, independent breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In humid coastal conditions water matters as much as food — the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Health and vet care in Kanpur

Preventive care in Kanpur is largely a matter of anticipating the long monsoon. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Living with a Afghan Hound Puppy in Kanpur

City flats and high-rises are the norm, which suits a well-exercised, indoor-friendly Afghan Hound Puppy. Owners in eastern India tend to find this dog a aloof, dignified, independent companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Kanpur is hottest in April, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Afghan Hound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters in Kanpur are mild, with January nights around 13°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Kanpur are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
