Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Living with a Labrador Retriever Puppy in Puri

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Labrador Retriever Puppy room to move and settle in comfortably. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Is the Labrador Retriever Puppy right for Puri?

The Labrador Retriever Puppy does well in Puri, with one caveat worth knowing up front: moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips. For a loyal, friendly, obedient, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Health and vet care in Puri

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Summer here peaks in April at about 36°C. That is manageable for a Labrador Retriever, but watch it closely because its double coat holds heat close to the body and a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 16°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Labrador Retriever puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
