The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Thelkoloi

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Thelkoloi being warm and humid, the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Thelkoloi

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Thelkoloi, the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Space and the outdoors with a Cocker Spaniel Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a family friendly, good with kids dog the fit is usually good either way.

Is the Cocker Spaniel Puppy right for Thelkoloi?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, and a medium-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Cocker Spaniel Puppy adapts well to Thelkoloi on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Thelkoloi is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Cocker Spaniel needs real protection from that: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Cocker Spaniel puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Thelkoloi are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
