The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a small dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, keep water available and watch intake through the dry summer months.

Space and the outdoors with a Shih Tzu

Homes around Bhilwara usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A small-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Bhilwara

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Bhilwara, daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Grooming and coat care in Bhilwara

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Bhilwara being hot semi-desert, daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Bhilwara is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Shih Tzu needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C. A light sweater helps a small Shih Tzu on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Bhilwara are November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
