Grooming and coat care in Makrana

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Makrana being warm and arid, daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Makrana

The dry summer months is the stretch that needs planning. Daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Saint Bernard Puppy than intensity ever will. A light summer trim (for double-coated breeds, never shave to the skin) helps comfort.

Is the Saint Bernard Puppy right for Makrana?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, and a giant-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Saint Bernard Puppy adapts well to Makrana on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Keep unlimited fresh water available and add a cooling mat or shaded resting spot.

Feeding a giant dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a giant frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because daytime temperatures climb high for much of the year, which shapes daily routines, keep water available and watch intake through the dry summer months.

Makrana is hottest in May, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from May to June. A Saint Bernard needs real protection from that because its double coat holds heat close to the body and a giant body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C.

Most of the year's rain falls in August. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Saint Bernard puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
