Grooming and coat care in Gangtok

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Gangtok being temperate highland, crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

Space and the outdoors with a Lhasa Apso Puppies

Homes around Gangtok usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A small-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

The city sits at about 1,654 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 28°C in June, so heat is rarely the problem for a Lhasa Apso that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 4°C in January. A Lhasa Apso feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Lhasa Apso puppy, the easiest months to arrive are May and October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
