Health and vet care in Chetpet

Preventive care in Chetpet is largely a matter of anticipating the long monsoon. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Is the Shih Tzu right for Chetpet?

The Shih Tzu does well in Chetpet, with one caveat worth knowing up front: moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips. For a bold, lively, friendly, small-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Feeding a small dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Summer here peaks in April at about 38°C. That is manageable for a Shih Tzu, but watch it closely because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 17°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from October to November, and November is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive are December to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
