The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Exercise and routine through the brief pre-monsoon heat in Domakonda

The brief pre-monsoon heat is the stretch that needs planning. The plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Afghan Hound Puppy than intensity ever will. Provide shade and water during the short hot spell before the monsoon.

Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In mild tropical plateau conditions water matters as much as food — the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Is the Afghan Hound Puppy right for Domakonda?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Afghan Hound Puppy adapts well to Domakonda on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Maintain a regular grooming routine suited to the breed's coat.

Health and vet care in Domakonda

Preventive care in Domakonda is largely a matter of anticipating the brief pre-monsoon heat. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Provide shade and water during the short hot spell before the monsoon.

Domakonda is hottest in May, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Afghan Hound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters in Domakonda are mild, with December nights around 13°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from July to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Domakonda are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
