Grooming and coat care in Gandeed

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Gandeed being mild tropical plateau, the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Maintain a regular grooming routine suited to the breed's coat.

Space and the outdoors with a Shih Tzu

Homes around Gandeed usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A small-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Is the Shih Tzu right for Gandeed?

The Shih Tzu does well in Gandeed, with one caveat worth knowing up front: the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds. For a playful, affectionate, gentle, small-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Maintain a regular grooming routine suited to the breed's coat.

Feeding a small dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In mild tropical plateau conditions water matters as much as food — the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Gandeed is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Shih Tzu needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters in Gandeed stay warm, with even December nights around 14°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from July to September, and September is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Gandeed are October to January: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
