Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the brief pre-monsoon heat rather than during it. Provide shade and water during the short hot spell before the monsoon.

Feeding a small dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In mild tropical plateau conditions water matters as much as food — the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Kothagudem is hottest in April, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from March to May. A Shih Tzu needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters in Kothagudem stay warm, with even December nights around 16°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Kothagudem are November to January: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
