Grooming and coat care in Mallapur

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, a Shih Tzu's coat and skin want checking more often through the brief pre-monsoon heat. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Keep vaccinations, deworming and annual vet checks on schedule year-round.

Living with a Shih Tzu in Mallapur

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Shih Tzu room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners throughout peninsular India tend to find this dog a playful, loyal, affectionate companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Is the Shih Tzu right for Mallapur?

Mallapur is moderate Deccan — the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds — and the Shih Tzu is a small-sized, playful, loyal, affectionate breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Keep vaccinations, deworming and annual vet checks on schedule year-round.

Health and vet care in Mallapur

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the brief pre-monsoon heat rather than during it. Take advantage of the mild weather with consistent daily walks and play.

Feeding a small dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, keep water available and watch intake through the brief pre-monsoon heat.

Mallapur is hottest in May, averaging 39°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Shih Tzu needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are mild, with December nights around 14°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from August to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to January: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
