Feeding a small dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In mild tropical plateau conditions water matters as much as food — the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Living with a Shih Tzu in Manchal

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Shih Tzu room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners in the southern region tend to find this dog a bold, lively, friendly companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Shih Tzu

Homes around Manchal usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A small-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

Health and vet care in Manchal

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the brief pre-monsoon heat rather than during it. Provide shade and water during the short hot spell before the monsoon.

Manchal is hottest in May, averaging 39°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Shih Tzu needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters in Manchal stay warm, with even December nights around 14°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from August, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Manchal are October to January: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
