Exercise and routine through the brief pre-monsoon heat in Medipalli

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Medipalli, the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Take advantage of the mild weather with consistent daily walks and play.

Health and vet care in Medipalli

Preventive care in Medipalli is largely a matter of anticipating the brief pre-monsoon heat. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Take advantage of the mild weather with consistent daily walks and play.

Feeding a small dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In pleasant semi-tropical conditions water matters as much as food — the balanced weather is one of the easier Indian climates for pet ownership, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a small-sized breed to exercise at home. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Medipalli is hottest in May, averaging 39°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Shih Tzu needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters in Medipalli stay warm, with even December nights around 13°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.

The rainy season runs from August to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Medipalli are January, June, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
