Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In continental plains conditions water matters as much as food — extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Grooming and coat care in Takha

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, a Afghan Hound Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the peak summer and winter swings. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Watch for seasonal coat shedding as temperatures change and brush accordingly.

Is the Afghan Hound Puppy right for Takha?

Takha is continental plains — extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year — and the Afghan Hound Puppy is a large-sized, aloof, dignified, independent breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Watch for seasonal coat shedding as temperatures change and brush accordingly.

Exercise and routine through the peak summer and winter swings in Takha

The peak summer and winter swings is the stretch that needs planning. Extreme summer heat and a brisk winter both need planning across the year, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Afghan Hound Puppy than intensity ever will. Watch for seasonal coat shedding as temperatures change and brush accordingly.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Takha is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Afghan Hound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Takha are October to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
