Grooming and coat care in Doiwala

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Doiwala being temperate highland, crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Older pets may need joint support as cold can stiffen movement.

Feeding a small dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In temperate highland conditions water matters as much as food — crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Doiwala

The cold winter season is the stretch that needs planning. Crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Pug Puppy than intensity ever will. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Doiwala is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from May to June. A Pug needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C. A Pug has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Pug puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Doiwala are March, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
