For a family friendly, good with kids, medium-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Older pets may need joint support as cold can stiffen movement.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a medium build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In cool hill conditions water matters as much as food — the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.
