Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Poornagiri

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Poornagiri, winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

Living with a German Shepherd Puppy in Poornagiri

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a large-sized breed to exercise at home. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, keep water available and watch intake through the cold winter season.

Space and the outdoors with a German Shepherd Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a family friendly, good with kids dog the fit is usually good either way.

Poornagiri is hottest in May, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from May to June. A German Shepherd needs real protection from that because its double coat holds heat close to the body and a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.

For a new German Shepherd puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
