The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a medium dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a medium frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, keep water available and watch intake through the cold winter season.

Grooming and coat care in Rishikesh

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, a Dachshund Puppy's coat and skin want checking more often through the cold winter season. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Rishikesh

The cold winter season is the stretch that needs planning. Crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Dachshund Puppy than intensity ever will. Provide a warm, draught-free sleeping spot and a coat for short-haired breeds in winter.

Living with a Dachshund Puppy in Rishikesh

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Dachshund Puppy room to move and settle in comfortably. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Rishikesh is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from May to June. A Dachshund needs real protection from that: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C. A Dachshund has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.

For a new Dachshund puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
