Feeding a large dog here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In temperate highland conditions water matters as much as food — winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Space and the outdoors with a Dogo Argentino Puppy

Homes around Tehri usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Is the Dogo Argentino Puppy right for Tehri?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, and a large-sized dog feels that more than an owner expects. The Dogo Argentino Puppy adapts well to Tehri on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Older pets may need joint support as cold can stiffen movement.

Summer in Tehri peaks in June at about 36°C. That is manageable for a Dogo Argentino, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 9°C. A Dogo Argentino has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Dogo Argentino puppy, the easiest months to arrive in Tehri are March, April, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
