Living with a Newfoundland Puppy in Domjur

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a giant-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners in eastern India tend to find this dog a gentle, patient, calm companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Domjur

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Domjur, moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Is the Newfoundland Puppy right for Domjur?

Domjur is coastal tropical — moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips — and the Newfoundland Puppy is a giant-sized, gentle, patient, calm breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Newfoundland Puppy

Homes around Domjur usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Domjur is hottest in April, averaging 38°C in the afternoon. A Newfoundland needs real protection from that because a giant body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Newfoundland puppy, the easiest months to arrive are November to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
