Health and vet care in Kalimpong

Preventive care in Kalimpong is largely a matter of anticipating the long monsoon. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the puppy; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Feeding a small dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most puppies eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Space and the outdoors with a Pug Puppy

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a charming, mischievous, loving dog the fit is usually good either way.

The city sits at about 1,566 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 25°C in May, so heat is rarely the problem for a Pug that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 4°C in January. A Pug feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from May to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Pug puppy, the easiest months to arrive are April and October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
