Feeding a large bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In humid coastal conditions water matters as much as food — moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Is the Scarlet Macaw right for Jiyyammavalasa?

Jiyyammavalasa is humid coastal — moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips — and the Scarlet Macaw is a large-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Space and the outdoors with a Scarlet Macaw

Homes around Jiyyammavalasa usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Jiyyammavalasa is hottest in April, averaging 41°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from March to May. A Scarlet Macaw needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 15°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Scarlet Macaw bird, the easiest months to arrive are November to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
