Space and the outdoors with a Blue & Gold Macaw

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a family friendly, good with kids bird the fit is usually good either way.

Is the Blue & Gold Macaw right for Racherla?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, and a large-sized bird feels that more than an owner expects. The Blue & Gold Macaw adapts well to Racherla on a sensible routine — shorter outings, timed away from the midday heat. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a large bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Racherla

The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. Moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Blue & Gold Macaw than intensity ever will. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

The rainy season runs from September, and September is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Blue & Gold Macaw bird, the easiest months to arrive in Racherla are January, February, June, July, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
