Is the Blue & Gold Macaw right for Old Ziro Sdo?

Old Ziro Sdo is cold mountain — the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others — and the Blue & Gold Macaw is a large-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Provide a warm, draught-free sleeping spot and a coat for short-haired breeds in winter.

Space and the outdoors with a Blue & Gold Macaw

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a family friendly, good with kids bird the fit is usually good either way.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Health and vet care in Old Ziro Sdo

Preventive care in Old Ziro Sdo is largely a matter of anticipating the cold winter season. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the bird; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Keep up daily exercise — the cool weather is ideal for longer, more active walks.

Feeding a large bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a large build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In cold mountain conditions water matters as much as food — the cooler climate suits thick-coated breeds but needs winter planning for others, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Summers here are mild, peaking at about 27°C in August, so heat is rarely the problem for a Blue & Gold Macaw that it is on the plains.

Winter nights fall to about 5°C in January. A Blue & Gold Macaw feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Blue & Gold Macaw bird, the easiest months to arrive are October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
