The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Apartment living with a Scarlet Macaw

Space is the binding constraint in a city, and a settled temperament matters more in a shared building than anywhere else. For a family friendly, good with kids bird the fit is usually good either way.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Ahmedabad

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Ahmedabad, the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Walk early in the morning or after sunset when the ground is cool, never on hot pavement.

Health and vet care in Ahmedabad

Preventive care in Ahmedabad is largely a matter of anticipating the dry summer months. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the bird; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Walk early in the morning or after sunset when the ground is cool, never on hot pavement.

Is the Scarlet Macaw right for Ahmedabad?

Ahmedabad is warm and arid — the dry heat means hydration and shade matter more than almost anything else — and the Scarlet Macaw is a large-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Watch for signs of overheating — heavy panting, drooling or lethargy — during peak afternoons.

Ahmedabad is hottest in May, averaging 43°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Scarlet Macaw needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 11°C. A light sweater helps a large Scarlet Macaw on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from July to August, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Scarlet Macaw bird, the easiest months to arrive in Ahmedabad are February, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
