The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Feeding a large bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, keep water available and watch intake through the dry summer months.

Exercise and routine through the dry summer months in Nakhatrana

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Nakhatrana, summers are long and intense, so heat management is the single biggest priority, which makes timing the variable that matters. Two shorter outings work better here for a breed this size. Walk early in the morning or after sunset when the ground is cool, never on hot pavement.

Nakhatrana is hottest in April, averaging 39°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Blue & Gold Macaw needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A light sweater helps a large Blue & Gold Macaw on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from August, and August is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Blue & Gold Macaw bird, the easiest months to arrive in Nakhatrana are February, September and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
