The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Is the Dusky Lorikeet right for Paonta Sahib?

Paonta Sahib is cold mountain — winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority — and the Dusky Lorikeet is a small-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Living with a Dusky Lorikeet in Paonta Sahib

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Dusky Lorikeet. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Feeding a small bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority, keep water available and watch intake through the cold winter season.

Health and vet care in Paonta Sahib

Preventive care in Paonta Sahib is largely a matter of anticipating the cold winter season. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. The vaccination record travels with the bird; staying on schedule is the single best habit there is. Provide a warm, draught-free sleeping spot and a coat for short-haired breeds in winter.

Paonta Sahib is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from May to June. A Dusky Lorikeet needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 9°C. A light sweater helps a small Dusky Lorikeet on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Dusky Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are March, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
