The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a large bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, keep water available and watch intake through the cold winter season.

Is the Blue & Gold Macaw right for Dooru?

Dooru is temperate highland — crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter — and the Blue & Gold Macaw is a large-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size needs its hard exercise moved to the cooler hours. Check paws for cracking and ice between toes during the coldest months.

Space and the outdoors with a Blue & Gold Macaw

Homes around Dooru usually come with their own ground, which takes the pressure off a formal exercise plan. A breed this size needs that outdoor time to be dependable, not occasional.

Exercise and routine through the cold winter season in Dooru

The cold winter season is the stretch that needs planning. Crisp hill weather is comfortable for most dogs but harsh for short-coated ones in winter, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Blue & Gold Macaw than intensity ever will. Provide a warm, draught-free sleeping spot and a coat for short-haired breeds in winter.
