Living with a Blue Monk in Kollegal

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a small-sized breed to exercise at home. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Feeding a small bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In mild tropical plateau conditions water matters as much as food — the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Exercise and routine through the brief pre-monsoon heat in Kollegal

The brief pre-monsoon heat is the stretch that needs planning. The plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Blue Monk than intensity ever will. Maintain a regular grooming routine suited to the breed's coat.

Space and the outdoors with a Blue Monk

Space is rarely the constraint here; the routine is what needs attention. For a family friendly, good with kids bird the fit is usually good either way.
