Is the Dusky Lorikeet right for Shahpura?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the climate swings from hot summers to cool winters, so care changes with the season, and a small-sized bird feels that more than an owner expects. The Dusky Lorikeet adapts well to Shahpura on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Shift walks to early morning and late evening through the peak summer weeks.

Shahpura is hottest in May, averaging 44°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Dusky Lorikeet needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A light sweater helps a small Dusky Lorikeet on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Dusky Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive in Shahpura are February, October and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
