Feeding a medium bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a medium frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Living with a African Grey Parrot in Pune City

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a African Grey Parrot room to move and settle in comfortably. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Grooming and coat care in Pune City

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, a African Grey Parrot's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

The first week

Expect a quiet few days. Most birds eat less and sleep more while they settle. Keep the food the same as before the move, introduce the household gradually rather than all at once, and hold off on visitors for a bit.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Pune City

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In Pune City, the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Pune City is hottest in April, averaging 38°C in the afternoon. A African Grey Parrot needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 12°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new African Grey Parrot bird, the easiest months to arrive are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
