Is the Orange Wing Amazon Parrots right for East Khasi Hills?

East Khasi Hills is monsoon-heavy — rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential — and the Orange Wing Amazon Parrots is a medium-sized, family friendly, good with kids breed. Those two facts decide most of what daily life looks like here. A breed this size copes well, provided shade and water are always within reach. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Health and vet care in East Khasi Hills

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the extended rainy season rather than during it. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in East Khasi Hills

Build the day around local conditions rather than a figure from a breed chart. In East Khasi Hills, rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, which makes timing the variable that matters. Several brief outings suit this size better than one long one. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Feeding a medium bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a medium build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In monsoon-heavy conditions water matters as much as food — rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.
