Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Phek

The extended rainy season is the stretch that needs planning. Rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Budgies than intensity ever will. Towel-dry after every walk in the rains and check between the toes for irritation.

Living with a Budgies in Phek

Homes here often have more space and independent plots, which gives a Budgies room to move and settle in comfortably. Owners in the region's hills tend to find this bird a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Feeding a medium bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a medium build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In high-rainfall tropical conditions water matters as much as food — rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

Grooming and coat care in Phek

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Phek being high-rainfall tropical, rainfall is among the highest in the country, so wet-weather care is essential, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Maintain strict tick, flea and worm control, which peak in the wet season.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Winter nights fall to about 5°C in January. A Budgies feels that: bedding raised off the floor, a sweater or warm cover at night, and a room kept out of the draught.
