Grooming and coat care in Kakatpur

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, a Blue & Gold Macaw's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a larger coat, matting and trapped moisture are what to catch early. Brush regularly — humidity makes mats and tangles form faster in longer coats.

Feeding a large bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Living with a Blue & Gold Macaw in Kakatpur

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a large-sized breed to exercise at home. Owners in eastern India tend to find this bird a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Health and vet care in Kakatpur

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Summer here peaks in April at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Blue & Gold Macaw: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 18°C, so cold is not a concern.

The rainy season runs from June to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Blue & Gold Macaw bird, the easiest months to arrive are November to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
