The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the bird approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Grooming and coat care in Tushura

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, a Hahn's Macaw's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Is the Hahn's Macaw right for Tushura?

Start with the weather, not the breed standard. Here the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, and a small-sized bird feels that more than an owner expects. The Hahn's Macaw adapts well to Tushura on a sensible routine — steady hydration and shade rather than reduced activity. Stay current on tick and flea prevention, which thrive in warm, damp conditions.

Living with a Hahn's Macaw in Tushura

Larger plots and open surroundings make this a comfortable setting for an active Hahn's Macaw. Owners in the east tend to find this bird a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Feeding a small bird here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a small frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Tushura is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Hahn's Macaw needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 12°C. A light sweater helps a small Hahn's Macaw on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Hahn's Macaw bird, the easiest months to arrive in Tushura are October to February: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
