Feeding a small bird here

Feed age-appropriate food matched to a small build, and change brands gradually rather than overnight. In warm and humid conditions water matters as much as food — the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, and appetite often dips before anything else shows.

With independent houses common, there is usually room for a small-sized breed to exercise at home. With more room to work with, the routine can stay informal, though it should still be regular.

Grooming and coat care in Kodaikanal

Let the weather set the schedule, not the calendar. With the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, a Hahn's Macaw's coat and skin want checking more often through the long monsoon. On a smaller coat, irritation shows up well before matting does. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Health and vet care in Kodaikanal

Preventive care in Kodaikanal is largely a matter of anticipating the long monsoon. Parasite control and skin checks earn their keep here more than they would elsewhere. Summers here are mild, peaking at about 24°C in April, so heat is rarely the problem for a Hahn's Macaw that it is on the plains.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 6°C. A light sweater helps a small Hahn's Macaw on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from October to November, and October is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.

For a new Hahn's Macaw bird, the easiest months to arrive are April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
