What a German Spitz Puppy should eat changes across its life more than most owners expect. Portion size, not brand, is where most first-year problems start.
The puppy months
A growing small dog needs food formulated for its adult size. Two measured meals a day. Large-breed formulas exist to control growth rate, which protects developing joints - faster growth is not better growth.
Planning for about 14 years
A German Spitz Puppy is with you for about 14 years. Budget and routine both need to survive that, including the last quarter of it when a small dog needs more veterinary attention than it did young.
Balancing lively against alert
Breeds described as both lively and alert need the two managed together rather than separately. With a small dog that usually means a predictable routine first and training second - the routine is what makes the training stick.
Changing food
Phase any change over a week. An abrupt switch upsets the gut and tells you nothing about whether the new food suits a small dog.
Adult portions
Portion against your vet's target weight and reassess monthly. The dog will insist it is starving regardless; that is not data.
A breed from Germany, living in India
The German Spitz Puppy was developed in Germany. The part that travels badly is rarely temperament - it is the coat and the tolerance for heat. Plan the year around that and most of the rest follows.
What “lively” means day to day
The German Spitz Puppy is described as lively, alert, affectionate. Of those, lively is the one that shapes an ordinary day most. It is easy to read as a selling point and harder to live with than the word suggests, because it does not switch off when you are busy.
