Comprehensive Care Guide for Your Albino Monk Parrot

🏡 Housing & Environment

Your parrot’s cage is their safe haven. Since Monk Parakeets are highly active and love to climb, bigger is always better!

• Cage Size: Minimum cage dimensions should be 24" x 24" x 24", but a larger flight cage is highly recommended.
• Bar Spacing: Ensure bar spacing is between 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch to prevent your bird from getting its head stuck.
• Placement: Place the cage in a lively part of your home (like the living room) so they feel like part of the flock. Avoid placing the cage in direct sunlight, drafty areas, or the kitchen (fumes from non-stick Teflon cookware are highly toxic to birds).

🥦 Diet & Nutrition

A well-balanced diet is the secret to a long life and pristine, glowing white feathers. A seed-only diet is poor in nutrition and can lead to fatty liver disease.

• Staple Diet: 60-70% of their daily food should be high-quality, size-appropriate pelleted bird food.
• Fresh Foods: 20-30% should consist of daily fresh vegetables (dark leafy greens, carrots, broccoli, bell peppers) and occasional fruits (apples, berries, bananas).
• Treats: Nuts and seeds should only be used as training rewards or occasional treats (less than 10% of their diet).
• Fresh Water: Provide clean, fresh water daily. Parrots love to dunk their food, so you may need to change the water twice a day!
• ⚠️ TOXIC FOODS (NEVER FEED): Avocado, chocolate, caffeine, alcohol, onions, garlic, fruit pits, and anything highly salted or sugary.

• Out-of-Cage Time: They need at least 2 to 3 hours of supervised out-of-cage playtime daily to exercise their wings and bond with you.

• Sleep: They need 10-12 hours of uninterrupted, dark, and quiet sleep every night. Consider covering the cage with a breathable blanket to prevent night frights.
• Vet Visits: Schedule an annual wellness check with a certified avian veterinarian. Watch for signs of illness such as lethargy, fluffed feathers, changes in droppings, or loss of appetite, and seek medical help immediately if you spot them.
