Is the Kanni Puppy right for Lepakshi?

The Kanni Puppy does well in Lepakshi, with one caveat worth knowing up front: the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention. For a loyal, shy, alert, large-sized breed that mostly changes when things happen rather than what happens. Dry the coat and ears thoroughly after baths or rain to prevent fungal and skin issues.

Feeding a large dog here

Diet is simpler than most guides make it. Good food suited to a large frame, fixed mealtimes, and any change phased in over a week. Because the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, keep water available and watch intake through the long monsoon.

Health and vet care in Lepakshi

Local climate decides which problems actually turn up. Given the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, the recurring ones here are skin and coat trouble, parasites and hydration — not the whole textbook. Keep vaccination and deworming on schedule, and book the check before the long monsoon rather than during it. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Exercise and routine through the long monsoon in Lepakshi

The long monsoon is the stretch that needs planning. The air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention, so split the activity across two cooler outings rather than one long session. Consistency does more for a Kanni Puppy than intensity ever will. Keep bedding dry and the resting area well-ventilated, especially during the monsoon.

Winters are mild, with January nights around 14°C, so cold is not a concern.

There is no long rainy season; what rain there is falls mostly in September.

For a new Kanni puppy, the easiest months to arrive are January, February, May, June, July, August, October, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
