Apartment living with a Chihuahua Puppy

Flats are the norm in Guwahati, so indoor enrichment carries real weight — puzzle feeders, chew toys, and a resting spot away from through-traffic. A tiny-sized breed manages this well when the outdoor time is genuinely regular.

The first week

The first week is about routine, not excitement. Feed at consistent times, let the puppy approach people in its own time rather than being passed around, and keep the diet unchanged at first.

Living with a Chihuahua Puppy in Guwahati

With apartment living common across the city, Chihuahua Puppy owners do well with structured indoor routines and regular outdoor walks. Owners in the region's hills tend to find this dog a family friendly, good with kids companion, and the settling-in is usually easier than the first week suggests.

Exercise and routine through the extended rainy season in Guwahati

The extended rainy season is the stretch that needs planning. Near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, so keep sessions short and frequent. Consistency does more for a Chihuahua Puppy than intensity ever will. Ensure good airflow indoors to keep the coat and bedding from staying damp.

Grooming and coat care in Guwahati

The aim is dry, clean skin — appearance comes second. Guwahati being high-rainfall tropical, near-constant moisture means skin, paw and bedding hygiene need real attention, so a regular brush prevents most of what would otherwise become a vet visit. Keep a dry, raised resting area — prolonged damp leads to skin and paw problems.

Summer here peaks in June at about 34°C. That is manageable for a Chihuahua: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.

Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A Chihuahua has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.

The rainy season runs from April to September, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk.

For a new Chihuahua puppy, the easiest months to arrive are February, March, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
